The Dollar General Bowl began in 1999, and it’s gone through a few different names. It began as the Mobile Alabama Bowl for a few years before becoming the GMAC Bowl in 2001, and then the GoDaddy Bowl in 2011. While it isn’t a premier bowl game with its ties to the MAC and Sun Belt, it usually gets the runners-up in both conferences, which makes for some interesting matchups.

Troy: The Trojans has been one of the most powerful Group of Five teams in the country under Neal Brown. In his four seasons, the Trojans are 34-16 and enter this game with a 9-3 record. A win over Buffalo would give the Trojans at least 10 wins in a season for the third consecutive year, and the only three times in program history. This will be Troy’s eighth bowl game, and the Trojans are 4-3 in their first seven postseason games.

The Trojans have a solid ground game, but aren’t great in their passing game. Then again, Buffalo struggles against the pass, and if the Trojans can open up the field with their ground game, it’s possible that QB Sawyer Smith might find the openings he needs to put up some points on the Bulls defense.

The game will be nationally televised on ESPN, and you can likely find a stream on WatchESPN on the day of the game. Otherwise, head on over to the college football streams subreddit on Reddit.com.

While the Bulls may be favored heading into this matchup, they tend to underperform when they need it most. The Trojans are the opposite, as they rise up to the challenge against better teams. We believe they’ll pull off the upset.

Army vs Houston

Army vs Houston odds, line: 2018 Armed Forces Bowl picks, predictions from model on 45-25 run

Click Here To watch Live Football

Two offenses with unique styles square off Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET when Houstontakes on Army in the 2018 Armed Forces Bowl. The pass-happy, Cougars (8-4) out of the American Athletic Conference have the fourth-most proficient offense in the nation with an average of 46.4 points per game. The Black Knights (10-2) will run, run and run some more. Army is a five-point favorite and the over-under is at 60 in the latest Houston vs. Army odds. Before you make any Houston vs. Army picks and predictions for the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl, check out what the SportsLine Projection Model has to say.

The model simulates every FBS college football game 10,000 times, and those who have followed it have seen massive returns. Over the past three years, this proprietary computer model has generated a jaw-dropping $4,210 profit for $100 bettors on its top-rated point-spread picks.

The model made some huge calls on Championship Week, including nailing Ohio State (-16.5) against Northwestern and Oklahoma (-9.5) against Texas. And when it comes to all top-rated picks, the model has been red-hot, entering the 2018 college football bowl season on a blistering 45-25 run. This same model has also nailed almost 70 percent of bowl picks straight-up over the past three years. Anybody who has followed it is way, way up.

Now the model has dialed in on Houston vs. Army. It’s leaning Under, but it’s also generated a strong against-the-spread pick that hits in well over 50 percent of simulations. That pick is only available at SportsLine.

The model has factored in that Houston’s offense is predicated on its vertical passing game. The Cougars scored at least 31 points in each game and racked up at least 40 points 10 times. Wideout Marquez Stevenso is Houston’s top weapon. Amassing 947 receiving yards and nine touchdowns for the season, the sophomore standout has notched five 100-yard games in 2018. His counterpart, Keith Corbin, uses his speed to punish slower cornerbacks. He’s netting 17.2 yards per contest and hit pay dirt twice in his previous outing against Memphis.

Losing quarterback D’Eriq King to a November knee injury has been a tough obstacle for Houston to overcome. Before being lost for the season, King had thrown for nearly 3,000 yards and 36 touchdowns. But King’s backup, freshman Clayton Tune, has filled in admirably, tossing seven touchdowns in limited action.

But just because the Cougars feature an explosive offense doesn’t mean they’ll cover the Armed Forces Bowl spread against the Black Knights.

The two factors that define Army are stifling defense and relentless ground attack. The Knights racked up an astounding 296 rushing yards per game en route to their 10-win season. Led by senior running back Darnell Woolfolk’s 885 yards, Army is adept at wearing down front sevens with its hard-to-defend triple option. Woolfolk leads the team in rushing touchdowns with 14 — two more than quarterback Kelvin Hopkins Jr., who has also tossed six scores. The junior signal caller is the team’s second-leading rusher.

Army’s defense is also one of the most stringent in FBS, yielding only 18 points per game. It has to be considering Hopkins, on average, attempts only nine passes per game. The Knights’ secondary loves to get physical and the cornerbacks have the make-up speed to erase receivers getting a step on them downfield.

So who wins Houston vs. Army? And which side covers in well over 50 percent of simulations? Visit SportsLine now to see which side you need to be all over Saturday, all from the incredible computer model that has returned over $4,200 to $100 bettors, and find out.

Hawaii Bowl

Hawaii Bowl 2018 : It should be a perfect day for football from Honolulu as Hawaii meets Louisiana Tech in the 2018 Hawaii Bowl. Kickoff from Aloha Stadium is 10:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. minded Bulldogs (7-5). Hawaii (8-5) is a one-point favorite after the line fell as far as a pick’em and the over-under is 61 in the latest Hawaii vs. Louisiana Tech odds. Before you make any Hawaii vs. Louisiana Tech picks and predictions for the 2018 SoFi Hawaii Bowl, check out what the SportsLine Projection Model has to say.

Now, the model has evaluated the latest 2018 Hawaii Bowl odds and simulated every possible play for LouisianJr, but it also says one side of the spread cashes over 50 percent of the time. You can only see that pick at SportsLine.

The model has factored in that Hawaii’s potent offense starts with quarterback Cole McDonald. The sophomore has thrown for a blistering 3,790 yards and 35 touchdowns against only eight interceptions. He also nets a healthy 8.2 yards per attempt. His favorite target is wideout John Ursua, who has registered seven 100-yard receiving games this season. He leads the Rainbow Warriors in both yardage (1,343) and touchdowns (16). Gouging defenses for 15.1 yards per grab, the speedy junior creates matchup problems throughout the secondary.

Hawaii’s offense, which averages 32.1 points per game, also stretches the field with wideouts JoJo Ward and Cedric Boyd. While Ward nets over 17 yards per reception, possession receiver Boyd is adept at picking up first downs in crucial situations. In his previous game against San Diego State, Boyd gained 140 yards and scored a touchdown.

But just because the Rainbow Warriors can pile up points doesn’t mean they’ll cover the Hawaii Bowl spread. The Bulldogs can churn out first downs on the ground behind running back Jaqwis Dancy, who’s netting 5.6 yards per carry. Having found pay dirt nine times in 2018, the speedy junior can juke out of tackles and bound downfield in a heartbeat. Quarterback J’Mar Smith also makes smart decisions with the ball and has thrown for over 6,200 yards in his career. He’s tossed 14 of his 32 career touchdowns this season.

Yielding just 23.8 points per contest, the Bulldogs’ defense held opponents to 20 points or fewer four times thanks to a formidable front seven that can force heavy pressure on the quarterback.

Birmingham Bowl

Wake Forest and Memphis both earned bowl game selections in 2018, and will face each other in the Birmingham Bowl. Wake Forest finished the season with a 6-6 record, which found them in sixth place in the ACC, while Memphis went 8-5 (5-3), and finished second in the American Athletic Conference division.

Here’s what you need to know ahead of the game.

Matchup Memphis (8-5) vs Wake Forest (6-6)
Time Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018 at Noon, ET
Location Legion Field, Birmingham, Alabama
Network ESPN

The Memphis Tigers have one of the most electric offenses in football, as they are ranked No. 4 in the nation, scoring 41.8 points per game. That’s thanks to their dominance through both the air and ground, featured by quarterback Brady White throwing for 3,125 yards and 25 touchdowns. Running back Darrell Henderson ran for 1,909 yards and 22 touchdowns, while his backup, Patrick Taylor Jr., ran for 1,012 yards and 15 touchdowns. Henderson won’t play in the game, but that doesn’t let Wake Forest off the hook. Taylor has been extremely dominant when he’s been given opportunities.

Wake Forest finished the season with a good offense as well, coming in at No. 33 overall (for total offense) and scored 30.8 points per game. The offense featured a great running back tandem in Cade Carney and Matt Colburn, both of whom combined for 1,693 yards and 13 touchdowns. Quarterback Sam Hartman had an average season, throwing for just under 2,000 yards and 16 touchdowns. Memphis will have to keep a close eye on wide receiver Greg Dortch, who amassed the 1,000 yard mark this season on 89 receptions.

These teams seem to be closely matched, considering they feature high-scoring offenses and poor defenses, so it should be an exciting matchup that could come down to the wire.

The game will be broadcast on ESPN and can be heard on GameDay Radio. Reddit will have streams available for the game as well.

We know what both teams bring it offensively, but with Wake Forest (No. 116 in the nation) and Memphis (No. 84 in the nation) sporting two awful defenses, they can easily crush the over, which is set at 74.5. Both teams will be able to run the ball effectively, but Memphis’ overwhelming advantage in the passing game will be the deciding factor in this one.

Memphis enters the game as a 3.5-point favorite over Wake Forest.

The game became the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in 2011, and it’s been filling our hearts with delicious carbohydrates ever since. They’ve met five times in history, though the last game came in 1970. Western Michigan won that game 35-17, though BYU has the 3-2 edge in the series all-time.

This will be Western Michigan’s second time playing in the Potato Bowl. It was last in the game in 2014 when it lost to Air Force 38-24. BYU is making its first appearance in the game.

BYU: BYU’s streak of 12 consecutive bowl games came to an end when it missed out on a bowl last season, but this year’s Potato Bowl will be the 36th bowl game in program history. That ranks fifth all-time among FBS schools. While this is BYU’s first time in the Potato Bowl, it will not be the first time the Cougars play at Albertsons’ Stadium this season. They lost to Boise State 21-16 on the blue turf earlier this season.

Western Michigan: This season, Western Michigan finished 7-5 and will be playing in its eighth bowl game in program history, and fourth in the last five seasons. It will be hoping the results of this year’s game work out better than previous ones, however, as Western Michigan has a record of 1-6 in its first seven bowl games. The Broncos started the season 6-2, but lost three of their final four games after starting quarterback Jon Wassink went down with an injury.

Both of these teams are starting freshman QBs and have been inconsistent on offense because of it. BYU is much stronger defensively than Western Michigan is, which should prove to be the difference in the game, but it’s hard to trust this BYU offense to cover a spread this large. Pick: Western Michigan +12.5
